Since 2015 the focus of of my work at Lely Industries shifted to the so called continuous improvement of the current barn and feeding machines. Together with one colleague, I was responsible for all mechanical changes to the current Discovery barn cleaner (90S and 90SW versions), Juno feed pusher (100 and 150 versions), Cosmix feeding station (S and P versions), Calm calf drinking station, Commodus cow box divider

During this work, I’m part of a comprehensive change process which ensures that modifications to the current series produced machines are implemented as quick and cost-effective as possible. Reported problems, improvements and other issues are prioritised and selected. My work consisted of finding the root cause of these issues, thinking of solutions, selecting and testing these solutions in real life, modifying the 3D and 2D CAD files of relevant components and assemblies, doing the necessary administration in the Product Data Managment (PDM) system and helping other departments (manufacturing engineering, purchasing, technical documentation, etc) with any questions.

To get insight in the stakeholders of the Lely machines (and as part of my curiosity) I volunteered to work in the Lely production cells a couples of days to experience the assembly process of some of these products first hand. Similarly, I have worked at several dairy farms to experience the Lely machines from the point of view of the farmer, our customer.

Next to these activities I supported student projects such as two successful graduation projects and a joint venture with the TU Delft. I’m also looking for possibilities to apply my added value as an industrial designer and incorporate sustainability, ergonomics and design in the Lely design process.

Besides my engineering work, I also volunteered as a trained tour guide. As part of the Lely marketing, guided tours are given to groups of students, existing and potential customers and other parties.
